I enjoy working as part of a team that truly cares about its customers and colleagues alike. The genuine warmth displayed by the team in supporting our customer base and their fellow colleagues was a big reason for me joining the business.
There are so many characteristics which are quintessential to complete the role of an Appello operator, which is why our recruitment and selections process is so robust, however if I was pushed I would have to say ‘empathy’.
The very reason why my parents have an emergency monitoring service – my parents have never had to use the service in anger, however they have the reassurance that help is at the press of a button. It also provides me with reassurance, I know someone is always there for them and I know I will be informed if anything was to happen.
Having recently left college and opting to dive straight into the workplace, I had concerns I wouldn’t be presented with, or be able to take advantage of the same opportunities as my friends with University degrees. However my experience couldn’t have been further from my presumptions as I feel I have obtained fundamental and practical skills at Appello. I also value the time and resources, provided by my managers to support my development on a daily basis.
In my current role as Senior Control Centre Operator the range of challenges and additional responsibilities excites and motivates me. In addition, Appello offers a great variety of opportunities, namely in their ’Succession Planning’, for people like myself to consistently develop personally and professionally.
I will have worked for Appello just over 7 years, progressing from being a Careline Operator, Senior Operator, Supervisor and I am now the Out of Hours Supervisor.
I have always felt great job satisfaction working here as we help people on a daily basis. I enjoy seeing a difficult problem through to the end and reaching a satisfactory resolution, knowing that the customer is happy with our service. There is a great range of calls we deal with which keeps it interesting. I also really like the team I work with.
I think my most valuable characteristic is that I have a genuine care for people – both my team members and my customers. I am always checking on my staff’s welfare, ensuring they are happy within their role and I think I display a good understanding and level of empathy when dealing with distressed callers too.
Working at Appello gives me the ability to make a difference to those in need. I value the support I've been given by my peers and the company to enable me to provide a good quality of care and to feel confident in my job role.
Working as a Appello Operator, supporting older people on a daily basis is a very rewarding and feel good job, I am in a position of trust and I relish the responsibility.
